The Selfish Giant

It seems I overestimated people's familiarity with the story of The Little Match Girl a few posts ago. So now I have another old nostalgic animated tale to share with you and I hope that this one is at least a bit more familiar to everyone. It's called The Selfish Giant. This one is definitely not done by Disney which becomes obvious when watching it. It used to be shown on TV every year or so but I haven't seen it for many years which is too bad. I wonder if you remember seeing it at all. It's about 25 minutes long and is split into three parts on YouTube. Here they are:

I still have my copy of the book that mom gave me many years ago.

Oh, I soooo remember this. I looked forward to watching it on TV, and we had the book, and I have read it many, many times. I had a copy at one time, and I remember reading it to my roommates once at BYU. I would get a copy again if I can find it. (A DVD would be great too) A really great story!

Yes I love this story too. In fact I gave everyone of our children a soft cover version a long time ago I think even when Lorin or Mike were on their mission is Japan and probably the tiny children didn't get one. It was part of a Christmas package for you. I think it relates to that season and is my favorite. Thanks for all these memories that are coming back Lorin. I will watch it later when I have more time. Love Mom

I just added a picture (at the bottom of the post) of the cover of the book mom gave each of us.
Mine is still in very good condition. My appreciation of it has grown quite a bit I might add.

If you look on Amazon Marlan, they have a few copies of the same one indirectly available or several other versions in stock at Amazon.

Neither John or I had ever seen that. We must have missed out on the good stuff as children. :)

I remember the video well and I think I will have to get a copy of it for the kids.

I seem to remember more to the ending of the book - that that day when the children came to play in the garden they found the giant lying dead under the tree????? If you have the book would you print the last page for me. Thanks Mom

The last line got cut off for some reason in the YouTube video. I just e-mailed you the whole story but here is the last line only.

And when the children ran in that afternoon, they found the Giant lying dead under the tree, all covered with white blossoms.

Just as I remembered it but I forgot about the white blossoms. Thanks Lorin
